Thus, the shipping packaging is becoming much more important. It is not just packaging that ends up in the trash after opening, but also an important marketing tool.

And of course, customers have expectations when it comes to packaging:

  • Interactive technologies such as QR codes on the packaging.
  • (Pre)pleasure when opening the packaging (unboxing) - the shipping packaging must be easy to open without the need for any aids like scissors or knives
  • Packaging design should be in fresh, creative colors and strong patterns – not just a boring brown box.
  • Storytelling is important - The brand should show attitude, especially about the environment and sustainability. A company that protects bees and uses a 100% recyclable carton - and makes this clear on the packaging - this resonates particularly well with most consumers.
  • Sustainable packaging: customers demand sustainable packaging that is recyclable, biodegradable, compostable, environmentally friendly etc.
  • Customers perceive digital printing generally perceived as the "greener" printing process compared to, for example, offset or flexo (using printing plates and chemicals). The process itself is also more suitable to meet these demands.

Packaging printers must adapt quickly to these trends in order not to fall behind. Because what is "in" today can be already "out" tomorrow.
