06.10.2011   Paramelt acquires Beneo's adhesives activities     ( Company news )

Paramelt announced the acquisition of the adhesives activities of BENEO-Bio Based Chemicals, a subdivision of the functional food ingredient company BENEO.
The acquisition of the business formerly known as Remy Adhesives in Wijgmaal, Belgium will bring significant synergies to Paramelt’s water based adhesives activities in Veendam, The Netherlands.
Besides further strengthening Paramelt’s current position in packaging adhesives the acquired product ranges are largely complementary and provide Paramelt Veendam with a strong position in the European labelling market. The BENEO-Bio Based Chemical labelling adhesives have a well established reputation and are sold under the brands Latyl and Multicollac.
The acquired range consists of casein, hybrid, synthetic as well as starch based adhesives. Combined with Paramelt’s Plastomelt and Excelta packaging hotmelts and its Plastoflex pressure sensitive hotmelts the company offers a complete range of products for the labelling customers.

30.09.2011   Aquaseal alternatives for vinyl chloride heat seal coatings     ( Company news )

As developing regulatory pressures exert an increasing influence on materials selection in flexible packaging design, Paramelt has continued to develop its AquasealTM range of water based heat seal and barrier coatings to meet these ongoing demands.
One particular area of market concern relates to the use of solvent based vinyl lacquers in a range of applications, particularly on aluminium foils. The use of vinyl chloride monomer is limited to an SML of 1mg/kg in all direct food contact applications on a pan European basis and continues to have a negative environmental image. In addition the presence of residual solvents from these lacquers can give a detrimental effect on both organoleptic properties and food safety. This combination of factors is driving an increasing demand from both food producers and the retail chain to discontinue the use of these materials.

    Blue wave technology platform
In two particular areas Paramelt has recently introduced some exciting new products within the Aquaseal range, produced using the new Bluewave technology platform developed in partnership with Dow Chemical.
•For aluminium lidding foils, a fully water based combi-lacquer dispersion, based on chlorine free, high molecular weight thermoplastics, has been developed offering excellent sealability to both polypropylene and polystyrene substrates. This product, particularly targeted at the dairy sector gives, excellent seal and peelability characteristics combined with the necessary resistance properties against water, fat and lactic acid.
•For thinner heat seal foils, intended for diverse applications such as soup cubes, processed cheese and chocolate wraps, Paramelt has developed a range of aqueous, ethylene copolymer emulsions which provide excellent adhesion to aluminium combined with good lay down, film formation, flexibility and crease resistance. Offering superb barrier characteristics and tailored minimum sealing temperature.

02.09.2011   Paramelt nominated for Customer Experience Award 2011     ( Company news )

Company news Paramelt recently received a nomination for the INTEGRON customer experience award 2011 within the sector ‘industry & trade’. Paramelt received this award nomination for the high absolute score and high net promotor score (loyalty - recommendation).
Early 2011 Paramelt organized a survey at the global customer base of its European operations in Heerhugowaard and Veendam (The Netherlands). This survey was executed by Integron, which is a leading Dutch consulting firm for customer satisfaction surveys. Integron organize an annual event where companies with the best scores within their sector are honored with a customer experience award.
More than 52% of the selected customers cooperated within the survey! The overall score was a little over 8, with good marks for the care and attention of sales and customer service, product quality and logistical performance. This was a further improvement compared to earlier survey results.
Paramelt highly values these results considering the turbulent period the market has experienced during the past few years: a financial and economical crisis and raw material availability iss
