Akarton has previously developed and produced custom corrugated packaging and small production runs for customers in the industrial, logistics, fulfillment, and e-commerce sectors at its Venlo facility. With the new plant in Schüttorf, Akarton is expanding its capacity to include production geared toward large volumes. One of the production lines is designed to handle up to 800 corrugated packages per minute.

The areas of expertise of the two plants are to remain distinct in the future. However, the locations will complement each other in terms of sales and technology, Akarton explains.

Further Expansion Phase Under Review
In addition to the high-volume products initially planned, Akarton reports that it is already seeing demand for other types of packaging, including rotary-die and flat-die packaging. The company is therefore examining whether parts of a second expansion phase—originally planned for a later date—could be brought forward. For now, however, the priority is to steadily bring existing production up to the planned capacity.
