British paper industry registers decline in production and consumption in 2022

The year 2022 brought many changes for the United Kingdom: after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles III ascended the throne, and there were also three different prime ministers in office.

However, the problems and challenges facing the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) in 2022 were the same as those mentioned in the 2021 report: Inflation, high energy and living costs, skyrocketing mortgages and the resulting significant decline in demand for consumer goods. The effects of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine also dominated geopolitical events in 2022.

These difficult conditions are also reflected in the statistics collected by the CPI: British paper and board production fell by almost 5% to 3.46 million tons in 2022, reaching a 40-year low.
