The search for an investor for the chocolate box manufacturer Walter Verpackungen in Offenbach am Main has begun. The goal is to ensure the company’s long-term continuity and financial stability. Alexander Eggen from the Frankfurt office of the Germany-wide law firm Schultze & Braun, acting as provisional insolvency administrator, is cautiously optimistic about finding an investor for the company. “Our goal is to find a long-term partner for this long-established company who will support its long-term prospects,” says Alexander Eggen of Schultze & Braun. “Walter Verpackungen is well-positioned operationally and enjoys an excellent reputation in the industry. This is a very good opportunity for an investor.”

“Operationally, we are well-positioned and have already implemented significant restructuring measures, such as consolidating to a single location and reducing personnel costs. We will continue to reliably supply our customers,” says Managing Director Roland Walter. “That is why we are confident that we will find a sustainable solution for the future.”

Walter Verpackungen has been established since 1914 as a manufacturer of high-quality packaging for chocolate, pralines, macarons, and other delicacies, as well as for numerous other applications—including production services for promotional materials manufacturers and industrial customers. The company uses a wide variety of materials in diverse forms, such as high-quality cardboard and paper grades, as well as plastic for transparent packaging. Walter Verpackungen also handles a broad range of contract finishing services for printed and shipping products—with an extensive machine park and an experienced team. The company supplies approximately 800 active customers, primarily in the DACH region.

Business operations at Walter Verpackungen are continuing in full. “All orders will continue to be accepted, processed, and delivered as planned,” says provisional insolvency administrator Alexander Eggen. “All customers can continue to rely on the first-class quality and fast delivery of our packaging products. In addition, key materials and products for the Christmas season have already been procured or pre-produced.”

Insolvency payments secured through the end of October

The approximately 25 employees have already been informed about the situation and the next steps. Their wages and salaries are secured through the end of October by insolvency payments. The goal is to stabilize the company so that wages and salaries can once again be financed from ongoing business operations.

The economic difficulties stem from the partial loss of customers following the prior insolvency, from which the company was acquired in mid-2025. The resulting decline in revenue led to a liquidity shortfall—despite restructuring measures already implemented—that the company was unable to resolve on its own.
