Following the failure of all attempts to continue operations, the provisional self-administration proceedings have been terminated. The competent courts in Ulm and Neu-Ulm opened regular insolvency proceedings on June 27 and July 1 respectively. Prof. Dr. Martin Hörmann from the law firm Anchor Rechtsanwälte was appointed insolvency administrator.

According to a press release, extensive talks had been held with potential investors in recent weeks. A new contract award by the shareholder CPI books GmbH was also examined. Ultimately, however, no viable solution for the continuation of the Ulm operations was found. The complete closure of business operations was therefore unavoidable.

A transfer company was set up for the approximately 220 affected employees of CPI Ebner & Spiegel GmbH, which is intended to facilitate a socially responsible liquidation and offer support with professional reorientation and qualification measures. The closure marks the end of the more than 200-year history of the book printing sites in Ulm. The other locations of the parent company CPI books GmbH - including Leck and locations in other European countries - are not affected by the insolvency.
