Even more flexibility and customisation options for customers - DS Smith expands product portfolio for high-quality digitally printed displays and packaging made from corrugated board at its Glinde site near Hamburg
News General news
DS Smith, a leading supplier of sustainable, fibre-based packaging and displays, is installing a digital direct printing machine with an attached high-performance production plotter at its Glinde site near Hamburg. The technology offers customers the opportunity to have prototypes, individual samples and small series produced quickly and flexibly with piece count precision. A new dimension of flexibility and a reduced time-to-market for the innovative and fully recyclable products made of corrugated board are the result.

The application possibilities are diverse - in addition to small series and individual samples, repeat orders or runs in small quantities for special promotions, trade fair appearances or test markets can also be implemented economically and with high-quality printing technology.
The press installed at DS Smith in Glinde prints almost in offset quality and is also able to implement sophisticated print motifs and designs excellently. Printing is done with low-emission, UV-curable pigment inks in CMYK, which are especially suitable for corrugated board. Various finishing options, such as the simulation of a so-called spot varnish, are also possible.
Due to the sheet format of a maximum of 3.2 x 1.6 metres, various products such as display components or bases, even in oversized versions, can be produced in one piece and, thanks to the high-performance production plotter, without additional tooling costs. In addition, there are no costs for printing plates or clichés, which are required in flexo or offset printing.
"Compared to other manufacturing options, digital direct printing offers attractive advantages overall," adds Stefan Eller. "As a full-service provider, we also offer digital web pre-printing as well as all other printing processes commonly used in packaging printing. So we can make the best possible selection for each project on a customer-specific basis and implement the project accordingly."
