Explosion at the Sundern paper mill

A massive explosion occurred in the area of the paper machine at the Sundern paper mill in the Sauerland region during the night of 14 March. Two employees were seriously injured, according to a statement by the Hochsauerlandkreis district police authority.

At times, one injured person was trapped under debris and rescued by the fire brigade. The injured employees were taken to surrounding hospitals.
The building was reportedly severely damaged by the explosion. The damage is in the millions. The criminal investigation department has begun investigating the cause of the explosion.
