The packaging idea "Frame it" by the student team Kristina Scheld and Farina Nagel so impressed the jury that the submission won both the European "Creative Cartonboard Ideas Awards" and the German Pro Carton Young Designers Award 2021.

The paper-based packaging developed in the "Packaging Design" seminar at Münster University of Applied Sciences' Münster School of Design (MSD) not only provides all-round protection for picture frames. The packaging also contains several additional functions such as a removable template, integrated adhesive dots and its own ruler.
This is said to make it possible to position the frame perfectly with little effort. Once correctly positioned, a highlighted dot in the center marks the exact spot where the nail should be placed.

Cardboard inlay protects glass pane
"The idea for "Frame it" came from a move. At that time, some new picture frames were installed and in the process we became aware of the problem of plastic packaging. During further research on picture frames and their packaging, we noticed problems with attaching and handling multiple frames. With our "Frame it" picture frame packaging, we managed to solve this problem and generate another benefit from it," explains Scheld. "The biggest challenge was to find the right dimensions of the packaging to match the frame of the picture frame. There, it came down to millimeters. Through a lot of testing, we were finally able to solve this," Nagel adds. "Furthermore, the glass pane of the picture frame was unprotected at the beginning of the project; we were able to protect this by using an inlay made of thin cardboard, which is placed between the frame and the glass pane."
