For the seventh time in a row, Forum Wellpappe Austria awarded outstanding product ideas made of corrugated board. An independent jury of experts nominated the finalists from 34 entries and selected the winners. The Wellpappe Austria Award is presented in six categories. In the category for young talents, a public vote via Facebook decided the winner.

The perfect flutes

"Packaging made of corrugated board is an indispensable component for maintaining supply chains and ensuring the supply of consumers. This was particularly evident during the Corona crisis" says Stephan Kaar, spokesman for Forum Wellpappe Austria. "I congratulate all winners and nominees and thank the expert jury, the sponsors and our partners!"
Due to the COVID-19 regulations, the presentation of the awards took place again this year during a small ceremony in Vienna. Each winner of the Wellpappe Austria Award 2021 received an original wooden sculpture by Vorarlberg artist Stefan Kresser and is entitled to participate in the WorldStar, the award of the World Packaging Organization.

  • In the category Corrugated Board Creative, the winner was the creative box Unfold Your Possibilities from the company Steirerpack.
  • The winner of the Corrugated Board Constructive category was DS Smith Packaging Austria, Kalsdorf, for the Soundcomb Box, a sound absorber made of corrugated board.
  • The monumental Grayl display, manufactured by Rondo Ganahl St. Ruprecht, emerges as the winner in the corrugated board displays category.
  • In the category Corrugated Board Point-of-Sale, Mondi Grünburg won with the Toolbox XL, a transport packaging for 12 special beer products.
  • Winner of the category Corrugated Board Sustainable was Rondo Ganahl St. Ruprecht for the MC-Box, the revolutionary export packaging for heavy goods.
  • And the young talent category this year goes to Vorarlberg to Rondo Ganahl Frastanz with their young designer Alexander Erath. He also won the public voting for his packaging firewood dispenser with carrying handle.

Apprentices create podcast series

Under the motto "Corrugated board to listen to", Forum Wellpappe Austria this year called on apprentices in the corrugated board industry to create a podcast series. The result are three informative and amusing podcast episodes on the topics: Who invented corrugated board? How is packaging made? And what makes an apprenticeship as a packaging technician so special. You can listen to the apprentice podcasts on the website wellpappe.at/podcast2021 or via Soundcloud.
