German saying "to be a blank sheet of paper"

This German saying has the same meaning as the English expression "to be a blank slate".

A blank page contains no information. In other words, we know nothing about someone who is a "blank sheet of paper" for us.

This expression is used when talking about an unknown person or an unknown company. It is also used to express a certain inexperience.

Examples
The defendant is not a blank slate. He has been in conflict with the law several times in the past. (So the accused is not as harmless as he pretends to be).

Despite her national success, the singer is still largely unknown abroad. (The singer is known in her own country, but if she were to perform in another country, only a few would come to the concert because she is not yet known there).
