Cartonboard machines are better utilised than last year, with several reports of well-filled order books. However, EUWID dialogue partners pointed out that the situation is not so good that cartonboard manufacturers can do without further shutdowns. However, these are to be carried out much less frequently than in 2023, they said in unison. However, this only applies to recycled cartonboard grades. The information on the market for virgin fibre cartonboard varies. The majority of virgin fibre cartonboard producers are still under pressure.

The announcement by a cartonboard producer about price increases for GD and grey cartonboard came as a surprise to almost all EUWID interviewees. The converters see the move as an attempt to counteract further demands and saw little to no reason for such a measure.
