Important sustainability rating for Hahnemühle – EcoVadis seal in bronze

Sustainability and social responsibility, the topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), have always had a high priority at Hahnemühle. Without this uncompromising commitment of the company, the uninterrupted production of exquisite papers at the same location for over four hundred years would not be possible. Sustainability in the truest sense of the word is lived out in the company’s actions and is reflected in the products that are successfully marketed worldwide. The internationally recognised EcoVadis seal confirms Hahnemühle ́s environmental protection and social actions for our suppliers and customers.

“In order to make our efforts and improvements in the areas of environmental and social practices visible to customers worldwide, we regularly have ourselves certified by external third parties. In addition to the ISO 14001 certificate for our environmental management, we are now certified by EcoVadis,” says Dr Barbara Born, Head of Research & Development and Environmental and Quality Management.

EcoVadis is an internationally leading sustainability ranking of companies that certifies in an industry comparison. Performance is comprehensively assessed in four categories: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. Hahnemühle achieved a top rating in the areas of environment and labour and human rights with above-average commitment in a comparison to companies from the same industry.

“Our bronze certification is confirmation of the sustainability measures and actions we have taken over the years. With the EcoVadis guide we can continue to implement continuous improvements in all areas of certification and in one year at the latest we would like to achieve silver certification,” says Dr Barbara Born.

Hahnemühle, as a traditional German company, is facing up to the increasing demands and requirements for ecologically and ethically justifiable production. In addition to regular certifications, Hahnemühle acts according to its own environmental manifesto and aims to become climate neutral by 2030. Furthermore, the company regularly supports national and international environmental protection projects with its own environmental initiative “Green Rooster”, which is unique in the paper industry. Hahnemühle thus actively protects the environment and climate through reforestation, species protection and education programmes. Hahnemühle is guided by the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations and the Gold Standard for environmental protection projects.
