IKEA Germany is introducing the RECUP/REBOWL reusable system for catering in IKEA restaurants, Swedish bistros and staff restaurants across Germany. Following the successful completion of pilot phases in three IKEA stores IKEA Köln-Godorf, IKEA Düsseldorf and IKEA Ulm, all 54 IKEA stores are now launching Germany's largest reusable system, offering drinks and food in sustainable to-go containers. The system works simply with a deposit: Customers pay a €1 deposit when buying a drink in the RECUP and a €5 deposit for food in the REBOWL. After enjoying the beverages and food, the empty containers can be returned to nearly 13,000 partners throughout Germany and the deposit refunded. IKEA stores also have deposit machines where RECUPs can be easily returned.

Smart solution for less disposable waste
"In the IKEA stores in Cologne-Godorf, Düsseldorf and Ulm, we have already tested the RECUP system in recent months and have not only implemented a sustainable and smart solution, but together with our customers and employees have already saved 18,000 disposable beverage cups in this period alone. That's quite a figure, and we're looking forward to multiplying it in the future to save even more food waste and disposable waste," explains Tanja Schramm, Country Food Manager at IKEA Germany.

IKEA as a strong partner
"With IKEA Germany, we have gained another important partner in the fight against disposable waste. We are pleased that the company has opted for our system and is committed to reusable and thus more sustainability in the catering industry," says Janina Frey, Key Account Manager at RECUP.
