IP plans to close sites in the UK

International Paper has launched a wider restructuring initiative in the UK which includes the closure of five former DS Smith packaging sites.

The proposal affects the corrugated plants in Clay Cross, Plymouth, Newcastle, Sheerness and Wellingborough.
In addition, the company intends to relocate operations from its Milton Keynes plant and reduce shifts at the Burscough site from 24/7 to 24/5. Minor redundancy plans are also in place in Redditch and Launceston.
The company did not announce specific closure dates and did not confirm the number of jobs affected as consultations are ongoing.
“Until this process is complete, we cannot confirm how many jobs will be affected,” a company spokesperson told EUWID.
The developments come as the company looks to adapt to changing market demands and cost pressures.
