Klingele receives SBTi validation for science-based climate targets – CO2 reduction targets officially confirmed
News General news
Klingele, one of the leading manufacturers of corrugated base paper and packaging solutions made from corrugated and solid board, has reached another milestone in its climate strategy: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially recognized the company's submitted emission targets for its four German corrugated cardboard plants. This strengthens Klingele's own climate strategy and at the same time supports its customers in achieving their sustainability goals.
The SBTi has recognized Klingele's short- and long-term emission reduction targets based on the reference year 2021 – including an absolute reduction in Scope -1 and Scope 2 emissions by 63% and Scope 3 emissions by 37.5% by 2035, and climate neutrality for all scopes by 2045. Klingele has been continuously investing in energy-efficient technologies and innovative production processes for over two decades. “At a time when many companies are postponing or watering down their climate targets, we are staying the course. We are convinced that a responsible, science-based sustainability strategy is not at odds with economic growth – on the contrary: it is the key to it,” says Dr. Jan Klingele.
We support our customers in achieving their Scope 3 targets and their own sustainability agenda
Klingele's carbon footprint is based on recognized standards such as the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. “We use natural resources responsibly and continuously invest in state-of-the-art technologies to reduce our CO2 emissions – thereby supporting our customers in achieving their Scope 3 targets and their own sustainability agenda,” explains Alexandre McKay, Sustainability Manager at the Klingele Group. “The validation by the SBTi is an important signal that we are on the right track: fact-based, transparent, and with genuine ambition.”
For the environment and the economy: investing in the future
Since 2011, Klingele has invested more than €480 million in state-of-the-art production facilities, efficient energy use, and sustainable product solutions. In addition to technological progress, Klingele is also focusing on international growth markets, where the company pursues a sustainable investment approach with long-term ecological benefits locally.
