MM Neuss invests in CHP plant
News General news
E.ON and the Mayr-Melnhof Karton Group have successfully commissioned a combined heat and power (CHP) plant at the MM site in Neuss.

The gas and steam turbine plant (CCGT) has an electrical output of 22 megawatts (MW) and a thermal output of 59 MW.
According to the company, this is the first CHP power plant of this size in Europe to be operated in a fully automated and market-oriented manner. The aim is to provide the cartonboard mill with an efficient and reliable supply of electricity and heat, which will enable climate neutrality by 2040. With the power plant, MM Neuss will save up to 22,000 tons of CO2 per year thanks to state-of-the-art gas and steam power plant technology with a fuel efficiency of up to 91%. The plant is also designed for future conversion to up to 100% hydrogen operation.
Construction of the plant began in September 2022 and was completed on schedule in December 2024. E.ON will take over the operation and plans to run it in the long term until at least 2045.
