Panther: SIRPLUS’ success story continues in the online world

The beginnings for the founders of SIRPLUS were accompanied by major challenges and the start-up idea was initially laughed at on the well-known TV start-up show "Die Höhle der Löwen” (the German equivalent of Dragons' Den). (https://www.vox.de/cms/die-hoehle-derloewen-2019-georg-kofler-platzt-beimsirplus-pitz-der-kragen-4409200.html). “SIRPLUS is an impact start-up that operates throughout Germany and works to combat food waste. We bring surplus food back into circulation by offering it for sale in our so-called “saviour markets” and in our online shop.”* This is how the now very successful young company describes its philosophy. In the meantime, cooperations have been agreed with 700 producers and wholesalers, enabling SIRPLUS to rescue perfectly edible food that the food banks do not pick up. This is how the founders turned their idea into a reality in order to contribute to the reduction in food waste and to raise more awareness of this important issue. And its success has shown that they were right. More and more interested parties are taking advantage of the offerings of SIRPLUS, which has built up nationwide availability with its online shop. The experts at Wepoba Wellpappenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG have developed a new online box made from recyclable corrugated board to ship the products. The range of boxes includes snack products, organic and vegan, vegetarian and subscription boxes in two sizes.

With the growing success of SIRPLUS, the company faced new challenges: Packing and shipping the goods had to be accelerated and adapted to meet the increasing demand. As a solution, Wepoba Wellpappenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG designed a board shipping box based on Fefco 0703 – a die-cut, single piece and foldable box that is delivered folded and simply assembled. Supplemented by selfadhesive strips and pull strips, the boxes meet the requirements for quick and easy handling, which gives employees capacity and time for otheractivities. Additionally, packaging supplied from a single source always ensures consistent quality. In parallel to these technical criteria, SIPRLUS has also used the transition to implement a likeable, authentic branding for its boxes. The print motif is created by Wepoba Wellpappenfabrik with a threecolour flexo-direct-print, and the boxes are made of EB-flute.
