At the first joint members' meeting that followed, Winfried Schaur, Executive Vice President Technology UPM, was elected President of the new unified association. Vice-presidents are Martin Krengel, WEPA SE, and Dr. Christopher Grünewald, Gebr. KG.

"We are facing great economic and political challenges and with the new federation we will represent our interests even more clearly in Berlin," explained President Schaur, until now President of the Federal Economic Policy Association. "The representation of interests in social policy and economic policy belong inseparably together. We can now combine our strengths in both areas even better," explained Vice-President Krengel, until now President of the Federal Association for Social Policy.

The new federation will be led by the Chief Executive, Alexander von Reibnitz. Andre Müller will be Deputy Chief Executive Officer. The association is based in Berlin. It has further offices in Bonn and at the paper centre in Gernsbach. The state associations of the pulp and paper industry will each become members of the new unified association.

The single association DIE PAPIERINDUSTRIE will be the central social, collective bargaining and economic interest group for companies in the pulp and paper industry in Germany and will bundle and represent the common interests of the industry with its more than 100 companies and around 47,000 employees at federal and state level.
