Later, the "Pappkamerad" was also used as a display for advertising purposes or as a prop for taking photographs. Today, the term "Pappkamerad" can have different meanings. It usually refers to dummies that are set up for advertising purposes.

In a figurative sense, one also speaks of "Pappkamerad" in discussions, namely when an argument is attacked that the opponent has not even put forward. This diverts attention from an argument that has actually been made and would be more difficult to refute.
