Since 1965, Skjern Paper has manufactured paper and paperboard from recycled wastepaper. Throughout the years, sustainability has been the dominating focal point of the company - this applies not only to the raw materials. Sustainability is at the heart of the entire company. For this reason, it has been important for the owners to find a new owner with the same value base.

"I am convinced we have found the right new owner, and I am looking forward to continuing leading the company", says CEO Nikolaj Bjerre Thybo.

Same vision and growth

When Sonoco acquired the shares of Skjern Paper, it is not a new acquaintance. Over the years, Skjern Paper has supplied coreboard to Sonoco.

"We know Sonoco as a good and reliable partner. From the very beginning of this process, we have had a good dialogue and have only been confirmed that strategically they are the best match", says Nikolaj Bjerre Thybo.

Sonoco is a known and respected company within our industry. At the same time, they have extensive knowledge about paper production and a deep insight into the development potential of Skjern Paper. Skjern Paper and Sonoco have a shared vision that future growth and expansion of production must take place through a focus on sustainability and employee well-being. Nikolaj Bjerre Thybo has no doubt that the two players can learn from each other, in relation to sustainability, development of production and digitalization etc.

"In cooperation with such a large global player as Sonoco, we will have the opportunity to exploit our potential to a much greater extent. Together we can secure our market position and future development", says Nikolaj Bjerre Thybo.

He emphasizes that all staff members will keep their job. The sale thus also secures the future of an important workplace in the area.

Sonoco was established in 1899; with headquarter in Hartsville, USA, a global leading packaging producer. The group has 300 production sites in 32 countries with a staff of 22,000. Skjern Paper will be the sixth Sonoco paper mill in Europe.
