Spirit Packaging Premedia GmbH, based in Würselen near Aachen, is an established provider of prepress services and flexographic printing plates for packaging printing. For over ten years, the company has also been operating the PrintConnect cloud platform, which packaging manufacturers, brand owners, retailers and repro service providers can use to efficiently manage their technical and commercial processes in the areas of repro, printing plates and tools.
Spirit has recently significantly optimized its material- and cost-saving production process for clichés for corrugated board printing, in which high-precision flexo plate pieces cut to size and mounted on carrier film are laser-exposed in a single pass. The already well-known advantages - excellent printing behavior, improved machine performance and reduced polymer areas - have been further enhanced as a result.

A key milestone is the ability to process even the smallest polymer areas without any loss of quality, for example in terms of register accuracy. This technological advancement forms the basis for a new online tool: the FairPlate plate cost calculator, which will be available in the new Spirit FairPlate online store in future.
"The repro and printing plate business is still very much a manual business and therefore very labor and cost intensive. Our vision is to digitalize, standardize and make both technical and administrative processes more efficient - always with the aim of offering our customers real added value," says Mattijs Mennens, partner and Head of Operations at Spirit Packaging Premedia GmbH, describing the project's objectives. "We have developed concepts in close cooperation with customers, which we are currently implementing step by step. The new online store will be available around the clock and offer functions such as an online cost calculator, direct ordering of printing plates and a complete overview of all relevant technical and commercial information - with extremely simple operation and maximum transparency. In this way, we are not only addressing technical departments, but also purchasers and office staff. The principle: log in, upload data, select machine, calculate costs, order - done."
