UPM Communication Papers has not been able to implement its plan to reduce capacity by closing the paper mill in Ettringen on July 31, 2025, as planned.

According to EUWID information, no agreement has yet been reached in talks with employee representatives on compensation and social measures. Instead, the matter has been taken to court. As a result, there have been no layoffs among employees to date.
The shutdown of PM 5, which is designed for uncoated press papers (SC papers), and the plant has also not taken place.
A few days ago, UPM also announced plans to discontinue paper production at its Finnish paper mill in Kaukas.
