Packaging specialist adapa has the knack when it comes to packing confectionery such as toffees, soft caramels or sweets in an efficient and resource-saving way. Following the certification bodies and the future expectations of the paper industry closely, adapa was able to launch a paper-based twist wrap that not only works on highspeed packaging lines but has also been certified as repulpable by the renowned CEPI standard the PaperTwister(re).

Efficiency and certified recyclability unrivalled combined

PaperTwister(re) is available in a range from 40 to 50 g/m2 papers and can be used as single or double twist as well as for folding applications.

It is designed to run on the fastest twist wrappers on the market and performs perfectly on established lines as well as on the newest high speed packaging machines. With a proven output of 2,300 pieces/min, the twist wrap, that is available in standard paper and metallised version, shows an outstanding and reliable performance. adapa demonstrates how to combine this performance with sustainability: The new fibre-based PaperTwister(re) with a paper content of 90 per cent and a plant-based coating has been certified by independent institutes as repulpable according to the new CEPI (4EverGreen) and OPRL (CPI) standards. Following these standards, any new fibre-based packaging should be designed with circularity in mind. adapa's R&D has mastered the challenge of achieving these high standards.

High quality appearance and consumer-friendliness

The PaperTwister(re) not only fulfils manufacturers’ and consumers’ demands for paper packaging. It also combines this with convenience: besides a very reliable and pleasant to open deadfold, it caters to sticky confectionery items with its easy-release feature that prevents products from clinging to the wrap.

For an eye-catching appearance the innovative PaperTwister(re) can be printed in a palette of up to eight colours.

A comprehensive twist range and a century of experience

The PaperTwister(re) innovation brands adapa a frontrunner in recyclable twist products. Behind the development is the Group's round about 100 years of experience in twist packaging and paper converting. Over time, adapa has established a diverse selection of twist packaging solutions, both paper and plastic options, including stripe lamination for both.

Within the paper twist wraps users have the option to pick among versions that are conventionally waxed with paraffin, devoid of paraffin, free from palm oil, wax free, or designed for recycling. Furthermore, when heightened mechanical resilience is demanded, a specialised version of the paper twist-wrap is also on hand.

With up to 98 % paper content and great machine runnability adapa’s range of paper solutions fulfils most expectations for modern packaging of confectionery customers. Producers of premium brands benefit from adapa’s long-standing experience with stripe lamination. This sophisticated technology can be applied both on plastic and paper, giving the product an extra high quality look and feel.

Future-proof innovation convinces experts

"PaperTwister(re) combines performance with sustainability and fits perfectly into our complete range of paper and plastic-based twist wraps for confectionery. We are proud to announce that our newest development has won over industry professionals: with PaperTwister(re) we are shortlisted in the 'Innovation of the Year' category of the UK Packaging Awards 2023," — Richard Bell, Head of R&D Confectionery, Tea & Coffee and Home & Personal Care at adapa.
