ALTRI’S GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS REDUCTION GOALS APPROVED BY SBTi

Altri Group saw the targets defined for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The objectives defined in the 2030 Commitment were considered in accordance with the SBTi Criteria and Recommendations, underlining Altri's contribution to keeping global warming limited to 1.5oC until the end of this decade.

Pursuing the goals in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Altri Group has committed to reducing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 51% per ton of cellulosic fibers produced by 2030, from the base year 2020, which translates into a 43% reduction in absolute emissions.

Using the Absolute Contraction Approach, the SBTi Target Validation Team rated Altri's scope 1 and 2 emission reductions according to a 1.5°C trajectory. “SBTi commends its ambitious target aligned to 1.5°C, currently the most ambitious designation available”, says the initiative that results from a collaboration between the CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

“Over the years, we have made a huge effort to make our units more and more efficient. This work has produced positive results, both in terms of production and a considerable reduction in polluting gas emissions”, says José Soares de Pina. “Seeing the goals defined in the 2030 Commitment validated by SBTi makes us believe that we can achieve them, thus making our contribution to the fight against climate change”, says the CEO of the Altri Group.

In addition to the targets for scope 1 and 2 emissions, Altri is also committed to reducing scope 3 GHG emissions in the categories of purchased goods and services, fuels and activities related to energy, upstream transport, waste generated in operations, downstream transport, and processing of sold products.

In the case of scope 3 emissions, which represent 67.04% of the Altri Group's total emissions, the commitment is to reduce GHG emissions by 25% per ton of cellulosic fibers produced by 2030 from the base year 2020, which translates into a 13% reduction in absolute emissions.
