bayernhafen plans to invest in logistics and industrial park on UPM site of Plattling paper mill
News General news
UPM has sold the site of the former paper mill in Plattling to Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG.
After more than 40 years of paper production, the 52-hectare site will be home to InfraPark Plattling Stephansposching. The new logistics and industrial park will focus on rail freight transport, the circular economy, and the creation of regional jobs. The investment project is expected to create around 400 new jobs over the next five years.
According to its own statements, UPM will remain connected to the site through the continued operation of the gas and steam turbine power plant. The plant ensures a competitive energy supply with a thermal output of 293 MW and an installed capacity of 125 MW.
UPM permanently closed the Plattling paper mill at the end of 2023 and offered the site for sale. Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG won the bid in a competitive tender and is now the new owner of the site, which includes various buildings and railway tracks.
According to the company, bayernhafen currently has locations in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Roth, Regensburg, and Passau. With this purchase, bayernhafen is expanding its presence in Bavaria to seven locations. The sole shareholder of Bayernhafen GmbH & Co. KG, a company organized under private law that emerged from the Bavarian State Port Authority in 2005 as a result of a change in legal form, is the Free State of Bavaria.
