dena Award presented to tesa for the use of green hydrogen on an industrial scale

The manufacturer of adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions tesa, based in Norderstedt, has been honored with the dena Energy Efficiency Award. The company impressed the jury of the German Energy Agency with its project “Climate-Neutral Production at the tesa Plant in Hamburg,” which sets new standards in energy efficiency and climate protection.

The concept is based on three pillars: the pioneering use of green hydrogen, the electrification of process steam with connected heat storage, and the use of AI-supported control of flexible supply systems for cost optimization, according to the award citation.

The Hamburg plant is the largest production facility in the tesa network and manufactures energy-intensive industrial adhesive tapes for the electronics, automotive, printing, and paper industries.
