Especially before and during the Easter season, cardboard egg cartons accumulate in the household - and some people would like to reuse them. For egg cartons, there are not only many craft tips for children on the Internet, but also quite a few ideas for other sustainable uses, such as sowing seeds in egg cartons.

But why should egg cartons rather not be reused?
The eggs packed in the carton are not washed or cleaned. Therefore, a variety of germs and pathogens such as salmonella may have accumulated on the egg shell, which may also have transferred to the cardboard of the egg carton. These germs and pathogens on egg cartons could be dangerous to immunocompromised individuals and children, causing severe symptoms such as gastrointestinal illness.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to wash or disinfect the egg carton first before a craft project. Therefore, the following applies: Off to the waste paper bin can with the egg carton - and always wash your hands when in contact with eggs and their packaging.
