News General news
Essity is investing a total of around €10 million in its paper mill in Ortmann, Austria, in 2025. The measures initiated are intended to increase production reliability, improve product quality, and boost the plant's energy efficiency.
According to the company, the projects include the installation of a new screw press for treating fiber sludge. It will replace the existing system and be supplemented by an additional unit to increase operational reliability. Essity has already modernized the PM 4 paper machine this year. The company expects this to result in efficiency gains and more stable quality for its tissue products.
Another focus is on the energy infrastructure: according to Essity, €5.4 million has been earmarked for the renewal of the turbines. This is intended to make the paper mill's energy supply more reliable and efficient in the long term. One-third of the investment will be realized in the current year, with the remainder to follow in the first half of 2026.
Managing Director Andreas Greiner points out that the investments are intended to increase security of supply for customers and strengthen the competitiveness of the site.
Essity employs around 36,000 people worldwide, including approximately 560 in Austria. According to Essity, the company's turnover in 2024 was around €13 billion. At the paper mill in Ortmann, around 125,000 tons of hygiene paper are produced on two paper machines.
