The two new lines, each costing approximately €20 million, will be used to manufacture Tork brand paper towels. “With the new PeakServe lines, we are making a targeted investment in the future viability of the Kostheim site,” explains Michael Brucker, plant manager in Mainz-Kostheim, in a company press release. “We are responding to the rising demand for our innovative hygiene products while simultaneously securing long-term capacity for our customers in Europe,” Brucker continued. The commissioning of the second processing plant was the result of several years of planning and implementation work, as the necessary infrastructure first had to be built. Essity had announced the investment in the two processing plants in 2022.

The facilities are part of a comprehensive modernization of the site. The goal of the project was to strengthen the site’s position as a central processing hub within Essity’s European network. According to Essity, the company produces 150,000 metric tons of hygiene paper annually in Mainz-Kostheim on two paper machines and also operates 13 processing lines. These lines manufacture Tork-brand hand towels, wipes, and cleaning cloths. The plant employs approximately 540 people.
