Why this is so and what measures the paper sack manufacturers take to ensure this is explained by the German Paper Sack Industry Association (Gemeinschaft Papiersackindustrie e.V.). (GemPSI) in two explanatory videos.

"When it comes to food packaging, product protection has top priority," says GemPSI member Norbert Feldmann. "Because if food is contaminated by external factors such as foreign substances or environmental influences, the consequences can be devastating. With our video series, we want to show the processes and complex safety precautions we use to ensure the protection of packaged food - from the selection of materials to production and use in practice."

Highest level of hygiene in production
Part 1 of the video series "Hygiene and product protection" explains all the steps involved in the production of paper sacks. This already starts with the selection of all materials used in the paper sack. Fresh fibre paper minimises the risk of mineral oil residues or microbiological germs getting into the food. Furthermore, only natural water-based dyes and adhesives made from starch as well as dispersion adhesives are used, e.g. for bonding barrier layers. Constructive elements such as barrier films or special valves provide additional protection against external influences as well as absolute tightness and freedom from dust of the paper sack. In addition to the choice of materials, German paper sack manufacturers practice comprehensive hygiene management along the entire supply chain. This includes various internal and external test procedures, audits and certifications as well as numerous safety precautions based on a risk analysis. Strict health and hygiene regulations are taken into account as well as special customer requirements.

Safety in practice
The second animated video "Safety in practice" deals with safety in the further life cycle of the paper sack. Paper sacks enable maximum transparency and complete traceability by documenting the entire production and the processed materials by means of batch numbers. Safe transport is also ensured by space-saving palletisation and storage, while easy opening and resealing guarantees simple and safe handling for end users. Last but not least, a decision for the paper sack is also a decision for sustainable packaging. The paper used is made from sustainable and naturally degradable resources. In addition, the REPASACK recycling system contributes to a functioning circular economy. The advantages of the paper sack as packaging for food are also appreciated by customers and end users. Some of them have their say in the video. For example, Alexander Anton, Secretary General of Euromilk: "The paper sack stands for optimal product protection up to the maximum storage period and for flexible handling."

Both films can be viewed on the GemPSI website as well as on the video platform YouTube.
