Navigator approves €115 million investment in Aveiro to strengthen European tissue capacity

The Navigator Company has approved an investment of around €115 million in the installation of a new tissue paper production machine at the Aveiro industrial complex, with an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes. The unit will support the operation acquired in the United Kingdom in 2024 and strengthen the Group's industrial integration in this segment, consolidating its growth strategy in Europe.

As part of its growth and internationalisation strategy in the Tissue segment, Navigator has made a series of acquisitions in recent years that have significantly strengthened its industrial scale, geographical diversification and competitive positioning in this business unit.

Maintaining its ambition to grow profitably and sustainably through organic expansion – with increased capacity and new product development – and selective growth through M&A operations, in 2025 the Company began a feasibility study for the installation of this new tissue paper production machine. Following this study, the final investment decision was made to install the new machine at the Aveiro site. This new equipment is intended to supply the UK operation, acquired in 2024, whose converting unit, which currently does not produce its own reels, has the capacity to process around 130,000 tonnes per year.

Die strategische Begründung für das Projekt besteht darin, einen stärker vertikal integrierten Betrieb zu schaffen, der die Rollenproduktion mit den Verarbeitungsanforderungen in Einklang bringt. Diese Lösung verringert das mit dem Einkauf externer Rollen verbundene Risiko, verbessert die Effizienz und erhöht die Nachhaltigkeit des Prozesses, wodurch die Position von Navigator auf dem europäischen Tissue-Markt gestärkt wird. Außerdem ermöglicht sie die Entwicklung von Produkten, die besser auf die Bedürfnisse der Kunden im Vereinigten Königreich abgestimmt sind, wobei die nachhaltige Integration mit den Wäldern in Portugal genutzt wird.

Seit dem Bau der ersten Maschine ist der Industriekomplex in Aveiro bereit für eine zweite Tissue-Maschine, die von der gemeinsamen Nutzung der Anlagen mit dem bestehenden Betrieb profitiert. Darüber hinaus reduziert die Integration der Zellstoffproduktion am Standort selbst die mit der Zellstofftrocknung, dem Transport und der Dampfversorgung verbundenen Auswirkungen, und die Lage neben der TM1-Maschine in Aveiro ermöglicht auch Effizienzgewinne im Bereich der Humanressourcen.

Die Inbetriebnahme ist für März 2028 geplant. Die Gesamtinvestition beläuft sich auf rund 115 Millionen Euro (48 Millionen Euro im Jahr 2026, 53 Millionen Euro im Jahr 2027 und 14 Millionen Euro im Jahr 2028) und wird im Rahmen des Programms „Portugal 2030” gefördert.
