Progroup: Production in Ellesmere Port continues
News General news
The insolvency of the British packaging manufacturer Krystals has so far had no operational consequences for the German corrugated board manufacturer Progroup at its Ellesmere Port site.

As the company informed EUWID in response to an inquiry, operations at the PW12 corrugated board plant are continuing unchanged. Production has not had to be adjusted or suspended in the meantime, it said.
Progroup has been operating a sheet feeder plant with an annual capacity of 235,000 tpy in Ellesmere Port since the beginning of 2019. Krystals, a family-run company based in Lincoln, was the main partner in the integrated packaging park. The company had set up its own special packaging production facility on the neighboring site, which was directly connected to the Progroup plant via a conveyor bridge. Operations at the Krystals plant began in October 2020 and Krystals was placed into receivership on 23 May 2025.
Progroup emphasizes that every location decision made by the company is based on a broad customer base. Although the packaging park enables the partner to be supplied quickly and cost-effectively, the Progroup format plants always supply other customers as well in order to ensure balanced capacity utilization at all locations at all times.
According to Progroup, there is currently demand on the UK market, meaning that the quantities previously purchased by Krystals could be taken over by other customers. Furthermore, the company sees no impact on its market strategy in the UK: “The strategy remains unchanged,” the company states.
