Environmentally friendly protection against tampering Wet adhesive tapes from Schümann score points as a universal cardboard box closure

Wet adhesive strips made of paper and potato starch are currently gaining acceptance across a broad front as a means of sealing cardboard packaging. Whether in retail, wholesale or online trade - more and more manufacturers and logistics service providers are using them as a sustainable and tamper-proof alternative to plastic tapes. In particular, Schümann's non-reinforced wet adhesive rolls are enjoying steadily growing demand. They can be individualized by printing them in color to suit specific customers or industries and are primarily used for sealing packages with unit weights of up to 12 kilograms.

With its wet adhesive tapes in the non-reinforced version, Schümann will be presenting at the upcoming Fachpack (28-30.9.21) a solution that has been tried and tested for many years for the dust-tight and tamper-proof sealing of cardboard boxes made of corrugated board and solid board. Since these parcel tapes are made entirely from natural and recyclable raw materials (paper, potato starch), they also score points as a particularly environmentally friendly packaging material. During application, the applied wet adhesive tapes form a material-technical unit with the cardboard packaging and thus make a direct contribution to the practical implementation of sustainable supply chains. It is therefore no longer just manufacturers of natural and organic products who appreciate Schümann's wet adhesive rolls as an environmentally conscious closure material for their cardboard packaging. Wholesalers and online retailers operating across all industry boundaries now also use these environmentally friendly parcel tapes in large numbers.

Manual or fully automated
The main area of application for Schümann's non-reinforced wet adhesive tapes is the sealing of parcels and packages with unit weights of up to 12 kilograms. The dimensions of the cardboard boxes play a rather subordinate role for their use. Since the length of the sealing tapes running from the roll can always be cut to fit exactly, they can be used for both small and large or even very large packages. For small and medium package quantities, application is primarily carried out with the aid of manual unwinders or semi-automatic dispensing systems - also part of the Schümann portfolio - and in high-volume packaging logistics in fully automated throughput systems.

Bonding and protection
The adhesive effect of Schümann's wet adhesive strips is based on a thin coating of potato starch glue applied to the underside. Immediately before application, it is activated in the dispenser, dispenser or dispensing system by sparingly wetting it with water. Once applied and briefly wiped off, the adhesive layer bonds firmly to the surface of the cardboard and can then only be removed destructively - this is the basis of the high tamper protection of Schümann's wet adhesive rolls: any attempt to remove the sealing strip leaves clearly visible traces and the broken cardboard can be ejected from the supply chain. Unlike plastic tapes, the wet adhesive strips cannot be outwitted by thermal tricks either. Not only manufacturers and distributors of medical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and hygiene products appreciate this seal-like property of wet adhesive tapes; it is also of great advantage when shipping particularly valuable products, components or documents.

The wet adhesive tapes can be additionally upgraded and provided with additional functions by printing colored texts and logos or identification codes on their visible top side. Schümann's print service can meet almost any color requirement, so that the closure strips can also be visually matched to company and product colors or typical industry color schemes. Only water-soluble inks are used for printing.

Trade show under reserve
Provided that Fachpack 2021 takes place this year (28-30.9.21), logistics specialists and packaging technicians will be able to obtain first-hand information here about the quality and wide range of applications of Schümann's non-reinforced wet adhesive strips. The company has confirmed its participation and will be located at booth 220 in hall 7A at the Nuremberg exhibition center. The exhibition program will then also include the thread- and fiber-reinforced wet adhesive rolls in their standard and Green Line versions. These package tapes with applied or incorporated reinforcing scrims are suitable for tamper-proof sealing of cardboard boxes of higher weight classes. Their thread scrims are integrated into the tapes in such a way that the cardboard boxes gain additional stability. This provides additional product protection, especially for outer packaging for bottles, jars and other fragile goods.
