PPWR: Small Online Stores Suspend or Limit Shipping to Other EU Countries
News General news
Since the European Packaging Regulation (PPWR) took effect on August 12, numerous smaller German online stores have suspended or limited their shipping to other EU member states.
Retailers cite the administrative and financial burden associated with the new regulations as the main reason. An EUWID investigation found corresponding notices on more than 30 online stores across various industries.
Those affected include retailers of clothing, food, pet supplies, craft supplies, books, and magazines, as well as sellers of electronics, spare parts, and industrial supplies. Since August 12, some companies have been shipping exclusively within Germany, while others have removed certain EU countries from their delivery areas. The decisions appear to be driven in particular by the requirements regarding extended producer responsibility for cross-border sales.
