With SPQ, SÜDPACK also wins the German Packaging Award 2021 in Gold

It was only in August that SÜDPACK's SPQ (Sustainable Print Quality) technology received the German Packaging Award 2021 in the category of cost-effectiveness. Now it is clear: The German Packaging Award in Gold also goes to SÜDPACK. This recognizes an innovative printing technology that significantly improves the CO2 balance as well as print quality in packaging printing.

It is a milestone in flexographic printing: for the first time, SÜDPACK has succeeded in reducing ink and solvent waste by more than 60 percent when implementing several print images as part of a pilot project for Goldsteig cheese dairies, while at the same time significantly optimizing print quality. Other benefits include lower energy consumption, reduced makeready, greater efficiency and less production waste. This makes SPQ particularly interesting for companies that think holistically about the issue of sustainability when packaging their products and have to cope with frequently changing batches.

The prerequisite for using the technology is end-to-end standardization of machine and process parameters and intelligent color management. As with offset or digital printing, this involves automated mapping of all designs in prepress using this color palette. "With SPQ, we are indeed revolutionizing packaging printing, because as part of this ambitious pilot project, we have questioned or rethought our entire know-how from over 30 years in flexographic and gravure printing," explains Valeska Haux, Vice President Strategic Marketing at SÜDPACK.

The declared aim is now to position this particularly sustainable and high-quality printing process in the market without additional costs - and thus to promote broad acceptance in the market.

The award ceremony took place on September 28 at FachPack 2021 in Nuremberg.
