Hamburger Containerboard reaches social plan agreement at Pitten paper mill
News General news
Hamburger Containerboard, part of the Prinzhorn Group, reached a social plan agreement with employee representatives at a very early stage in connection with the shutdown of a paper machine at the Pitten paper mill in Austria.

As the company confirmed to EUWID, a collegial agreement satisfactory to all parties was reached. After all, the employer found it very difficult to make the job cuts, which involved the dismissal of a total of 52 employees. Accordingly, as a responsible employer, the Prinzhorn Group initiated comprehensive measures to cushion the situation for those affected and their families.
Initial voluntary programs are underway to help those affected transition to new employment. In addition, a voluntary employment foundation—similar to a so-called transfer company—is being set up to provide intensive support for rapid reintegration into the labor market, further training, and retraining measures.
The final social plan was approved on Thursday, August 14. At the end of July, the company had informed employees at a works meeting about a necessary reduction in capacity at AP Corrugated Base Paper, which would also have an impact on the workforce.
In Pitten, Hamburger Containerboard previously produced corrugated base paper, fluting, liner, and gypsum board cardboard on two paper machines with 322 employees.
