Nilfisk, one of the world's leading providers of professional cleaning solutions, has published its annual CSR report. This shows that the company has risen to an "A-" rating in the CDP score in just two years, setting new standards within the industry. To achieve this, Nilfisk has been working hard over the last few years to launch an internal process to identify, assess and manage climate-related risks and opportunities. The results are evident today in the rapid, sustained improvement in the CDP rating.

"We have established strong organisational structures and governance processes in our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) approach. This includes, among other things, board-level oversight for climate-related issues. In addition, responsibility for the overall CSR and climate strategy lies with top management. These structural changes are further supported by a CSR board to ensure cross-functional support in the implementation of the CSR strategy," explains Camilla Ramby, Chief Marketing Officer at Nilfisk.

Another important part of Nilfisk's package of measures is its commitment to the Science Based Target Initiative. It helps companies around the world set greenhouse gas reduction targets based on the latest climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement. "By participating in the Science Based Target Initiative, we now have a programme that specifically supports us in implementing our greenhouse gas reduction projects. We are working on a number of initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint by 35 per cent by 2030. To this end, we have, for example, introduced a new vehicle policy as well as defined various LED energy efficiency projects, which we have implemented in some of our largest facilities in Europe and North America. In addition, all goods transport between our production sites in Hungary and distribution centres in Belgium was switched from trucks to electric trains in 2020, resulting in a CO2 reduction of 96,903 tonnes," says Camilla Ramby.

Ambitions for further climate performance optimisation
Even though Nilfisk now finds itself in the top group of innovative and proactive companies in terms of climate performance, the global player has many more activities on its agenda: "We are proud to have achieved a significant improvement in our CDP score in just a few years, but we are not done yet. We are determined to manage our climate impact even better. By constantly improving our data, we can accurately calculate our carbon footprint for different activities. This forms the basis for the specific targets we set to ensure that Nilfisk does not contribute to global temperature rise," says Camilla Ramby.
