Smurfit Kappa launched its B2B online shop for packaging a good year ago. Since then, there has been a steady increase in sales and a growing number of direct enquiries for individual productions.

In particular, the demand for small quantities has been high. One of the main reasons for the success is the increase in online trade due to the Corona crisis, which has led to an increase in demand for shipping packaging. There has also been a high demand in the standard folding box sector.
Furthermore, the good development can also be attributed to the fact that there are difficulties for companies to obtain packaging material due to the general paper shortage on the market. Here in particular, Smurfit Kappa's online shop was able to meet the demand through deliveries from stock and in standardised product categories and sizes.

The experiences of the first year with the online shop have provided Smurfit Kappa with many insights. Currently, work is continuing on improving the customer journey and technical processes to offer visitors and customers an even better user experience.

Wide range available even in smallest quantities
The webshop offers a wide range of standardised packaging for all applications as well as specialised solutions for the e-commerce, industrial and consumer sectors. The products can be ordered in small and very small quantities. Delivery is free of charge within a few working days. The products can be divided into three categories:

  • Cardboard boxes: folding boxes, meat and fish packaging, hazardous goods cardboard boxes, pallet containers, crates/trays, moving boxes, shipping packaging, wine and gift packaging; all cardboard boxes are 100% biodegradable under natural conditions,
  • cushioning & protection: Filling material, edge protection, foils, landing protection,
  • Gluing & sealing: adhesive tapes.

The box finder helps as an intelligent assistant in the search for the desired products.

Online shop offers intensive advice
In addition, small companies such as start-ups benefit from the eShop because they can not only order packaging but also receive detailed advice. This helps them to approach the underestimated topic of 'packaging' professionally, which is not part of the start-ups' core business. In the process, they learn that, for example, customised productions are possible via the shop, but that in the initial phase and for a certain time, standard solutions are often much more cost-efficient and better suited.
