Paper mill site in Hagen Kabel goes to logistics company VGP
News General news
Antwerp-based VGP has taken over the former Kabel Premium Pulp & Paper GmbH factory site in Hagen.
The Belgian developer of logistics and semi-industrial real estate and provider of renewable energy solutions plans to gradually convert the site of the former Kabel paper mill into a modern commercial and industrial park. The company is particularly interested in attracting businesses from the manufacturing, light industry, and logistics sectors.
Before construction can begin, the existing buildings and facilities must be completely dismantled, and production structures, including paper machines, are still present on the site, reports VGP.
The property covers around 280,000 square meters and was sold to VGP on October 9, 2025, as part of the insolvency proceedings opened in June 2025 by the insolvency administrator, Prof. Dr. Peter Neu, law firm ATN d'Avoine Teubler Neu Rechtsanwälte. The investor process initiated as part of the preliminary insolvency proceedings initially failed. The traditional paper mill had been located in Hagen for almost 130 years.
The new owner of the factory site, VGP, intends to work closely with the city of Hagen and the local economic development agency. Jan Van Geet, CEO of VGP, expressed his satisfaction: "With the acquisition of the site of the former paper factory in Hagen, we are laying the foundation for giving a traditional industrial location a new future. Our goal is to transform the site into a modern business park—our first in North Rhine-Westphalia—that combines and secures production, logistics, and sustainable energy supply."
