The total value of production in the Swiss printing industry fell by 2.1% in the third quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter, bringing the production level 4.9% lower than in the same period last year. The production level for the third quarter was thus only CHF 667 million, which corresponds to around 78% of the pre-coronavirus level at the beginning of 2019.

Producer prices for graphic products, on the other hand, stabilized. However, the strengthening of the Swiss franc is a problem for the Swiss graphic industry, as corresponding services from abroad are becoming more attractive in terms of price.

Input prices dilute Swiss production volumes in the past
According to figures from “dpsuisse-Infex grafische Industrie Schweiz,” the production volume of the graphic arts industry in Switzerland more than halved between 2000 and 2019. The coronavirus years of 2020 and 2021 brought a further slump in sales of around 15%. Although the industry recorded a 6% increase in sales in 2022, the authors of the study attribute this to higher input prices for paper and energy, which were not passed on to customers to a sufficient extent. Adjusted for this circumstance, sales for 2022 would have fallen by 2.9%.
