The planned measures affect the sites in Jelenia Góra, Poland (up to 130 jobs), Gothenburg, Sweden (up to 55), and Sundsvall, Sweden (up to 170). According to a statement, production in Sundsvall is to be completely shut down. Discussions with employee representatives have already begun.

Valmet cites ongoing high uncertainty in the global economy, which continues to impact customers’ decision-making, as the reason for this move. Through the announced measures, Valmet aims to secure the company’s long-term competitiveness, particularly within the Biomaterial Solutions and Services segment. Valmet emphasizes that deliveries to customers will not be affected by these measures. The Group expects to save approximately €20 million by early 2027 as a result of the planned measures.

According to the company, the Biomaterials Solutions and Services business area supplies complete production lines, central process islands, machine sections, and lifecycle services to the pulp, paper, packaging, tissue, and energy industries. The division is divided into three segments: Pulp, Energy and Circularity; Packaging; and Paper and Tissue. According to its own figures, Valmet employs approximately 18,500 people worldwide and operates in 40 countries. In fiscal year 2025, Valmet generated net sales of €5.2 billion.
